Fat and Frantic 3

I am beginning to think it’s time to post on this subject again, I have had 2 more comments in the last 2 days on my original post back in February, maybe this is because that original post comes up on the first on the first page of a google for Fat and Frantic. Anyway I am beginning to think with this much interest wouldn’t it be great if we could make Fat and Frantic’s music more easily available. Should we start a campaign to get Fat and Frantic’s music on iTunes. I don’t know how we would start such a campaign, I’m not sure how easy it would be for iTunes to get hold of the music but it think it would be good to try and perhaps if we could get them to put one of their tracks as the free track of the week to help more people discover this British treasure. Then the only other thing I would like to do is set up a tribute band ‘Thin and Lethargic’ (when I say the only thing I mean the main other thing I would like to do in remembrance of this great band.) what are your thoughts? Which track do you think should be made available for free to get people into the Fat and Frantic vibe?

Yes, a tribute band would be great. I had the very same idea about 10 years ago with the same name as well. It couldn’t be anything else could it. As for a track being available on iTunes, where would you start. There are so many songs that sum up this great institution…dirtville werewolf, darling doris, dhss, born to be a brownie, fruit machine, hoovered…i could go on.

    Hi Anonymous

Thanks for dropping by, yes I have had the idea for a number of years with that name, like you say it couldn’t be anything else really could it. Tell me where about’s do you live? What instrument do you play? Start with the basic practicalities and see if anything could happen with the idea!

Hi, i’m in linconshire and played bass in a band quite a few years ago. I think the hardest bit would be getting somebody who can play the washboard AND have a tongue as big as Silas.

I used to do vocals in a few bands which I have to say I miss hugely, but I’m not sure I can do manage a tongue the right size, I could probably manage the wash board though, although I guess the distance could be an issue as I am in Oxfordshire, oh well.

Hello you lovely faf fans – i have just spent a few hilarious minutes reading all your comments – thanks for the support! – shall we make a come back now?
seriously I was talking to Bocky (Manager) the other day and he is making plans to get Faf tracks legally onto Itunes – and as he owns 50% of the tracks (and the rest of us 10% each) he is probably the only guy who can do it – as for a tribute band – come on where are ya! please can i be roady??
    best regards Tuff

Hi Tuff, great to have you join the discussion, and fantastic news about itunes! As for the tribute band, it would be a privilege to have you as a roady (if you asked really nicely we might even let you make a guest appearance!)

PS are you still doing anything as Rev Softly?

Thanks Tuff, that would be great if you could keep us up to date with the itunes stuff, can I ask another quick question, there has been some discussion about where all the FAF guys are now and I don’t think anyone has been able to give us a complete picture, can you tell us where you are all at?

    Cheers and God bless

yup well as far as I know I’m working with Young Voices UK arranging stuff for big Kids Choir concerts – youngvoicesconcerts.com
plus some studio work and still trying to write that hit song….

Jim is doing a history of art course – Fat is a vicar in Devon – Silas runs a church in Bristol and Simon is still an itinerant carpenter. Nigel has written and produced some fab children’s albums for the Vineyard label.
Bocky is doing something very important for Hasbro toys and Worm is keeping British Airways together. Thats all I know and it could be out of date already! what are you doing?

Have just found this on a random google search – its great to see people who suffered the same afflication as me! Sorry its so late in the discussion, but I’d like to add my name to the list of ‘spotters and pay my respect the joy and genius that was FAF.

Wow! as per the others I googled and found you fellow FAF lovers! I was obsessed as a teen and would certainly number Doris and most of Quirk as favourites but best of all was the a capella version of Naughty Eve – I only had a copy on tape from a friend where was it from? and Hey psst still comes to mind inappropriately in church! what a great band and wonderful influence FAF was to us all. thanks guys.

Heh – if only there was a tribute band going on – I could even get my ex-choirboy voice out of post-dropped-retirement and help out maybe….always loved to sing along to the tracks…..

After tonight’s extravaganza of FAF-Google-digging, I really need a vinyl/cassette playing stereo system!

    Cheers

Amazed that I’ve found this site again. That’s my post up there at No. 1. Have any of you FAF fans seen the fatandfrantic.co.uk website. They have even scanned copies of the Trainspotters fanzine on there and there is some very good news regarding iTunes and eMusic.
Apparently Rev Softly last played in Dec 2007 at the church where Silas is pastor.
Please please please can anybody post up on here if they here anything about Rev Softly playing again as I would love to see them.
Silas, Jim, Fat, Tuff. Simon, Nigel, if any of you see this I would love to get in touch. I don’t know if you would remember me. I used to live in Birmingham and married a girl called Lizz for who you once signed her plastered leg at a gig in Birmingham and her FAF dancing man leather jacket at your Marquee gig Friday 14th.
Well, Lizz and I are still together with 3 kids (who also like FAF) and we now live in a very rural part of Lincolnshire. I’ve just celebrated my 40th birthday with a barn dance with the Famous Potatoes providing the music. Hows about for my 50th you guys get together and play us some old tunes.
    WE WANT BIG FAT BRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a big fan since taking my daughter to a ‘Swing Your Pants Show.’ I bought the CD, I was one of the first to have one in a car! I have been a big fan ever since and am always trying to convert others by making them listen. Africa is my favourite.

    Hiya
Does anyone know the guitar chords for “If I could be (your postman)”?
It was my wife’s favourite back in the eighties and I want to learn it to try and play/sing at her 40th birthday.
    Cheers
    James
